CopyCut serves a single unified purpose: to automatically record, organize, search, and manage copied clipboard content (text, web links, images, and code snippets) to prevent data loss and increase productivity.

Data We Process & Disclose

To provide core clipboard features, CopyCut accesses the following content types strictly within your local browser environment:

Website Content (Local Only): Reads text, images, and hyperlinks that you explicitly copy (via Ctrl+C / Cmd+C or context menu) to generate searchable history items.
Web History & Metadata (Local Only): Stores the origin page URL and document title associated with a clip so you can navigate back to the source web page when reviewing your history.

💡 Local Storage Guarantee

Neither your clipboard content nor your web origin history is ever transmitted to remote analytics servers or external databases. Everything resides in your local Chrome profile.

What We Never Collect

We believe in absolute data minimization. CopyCut does NOT collect or store:

❌ Personally Identifiable Information (PII): No names, email addresses, phone numbers, or account IDs.
❌ Financial Information: No credit card numbers, payment accounts, or financial transactions.
❌ Authentication Credentials: Passwords, login tokens, or session cookies.
❌ Location & Device Tracking: No IP tracking, GPS coordinates, or behavioral keystroke analytics.

Extension Permissions Justifications

CopyCut requests minimal permissions required to function. Here is why each permission is used:

clipboardRead	To detect and save text, images, and HTML content when you perform a copy operation.
activeTab	To retrieve current page title, URL, and page selection when adding a clip via context menu.
storage	To save clips, custom folders, settings, and smart rules locally in `chrome.storage.local`.
unlimitedStorage	To prevent data loss by removing the 5MB browser quota for local clip storage.
contextMenus	To add convenient right-click options ("Save Selection to CopyCut") on web pages.
sidePanel	To display the clipboard manager UI inside Chrome's native side panel overlay.
tabs	To open the original source webpage when you click a saved clip's origin link.

Optional Third-Party API Integrations

The extension contains optional advanced features (such as OCR image text extraction, Gemini AI text processing, and GitHub Gist publishing). These services are strictly opt-in and only execute when you explicitly click the action button.

Google Gemini AI API: If enabled by entering your own API key, text is sent to Google's official Gemini endpoint solely to fulfill your prompt request.
OCR.space API: Used to extract text from images upon clicking "Extract Text". Images are sent securely via HTTPS.
GitHub Gist API: Used to publish code snippets to your private GitHub account using your personal access token.

No remote code or external scripts are ever downloaded or evaluated inside the extension package.

Your Data Control & Deletion

You maintain 100% control over your data at all times:

Delete Clips: Individual clips can be deleted at any time.
Clear All History: Use the "Clear All Clippings" feature in the extension settings to permanently wipe all stored history instantly.
Uninstall: Uninstalling the extension completely deletes all local storage associated with CopyCut from your browser.
